Paul Revere's Ride
If my memory serves me right
It was a silent April night
The night of the legendary ride
That would start that epic fight
I told my friend "Hold only one lantern in your hand
If the British come by land,
Hold one more light if the come by sea,
And I'll make sure the villagers fight and do not flee".
"Goodbye" I said and I was off
And at the danger I did scoff
I silently rowed my wooden boat
Not daring a sound escape my throat.
Past the "Somerset" I gently rowed
As the moon above me slightly glowed
The phantom ship stood tall and scary
And as for me I was just so wary.
I checked the pocket watch in my hand
Secretly hoping they'd come by land
I though "Joseph should be in the belfry by now"
I prayed we' d win, but I wondered how.
Back and forth I did pace
Thinking of the danger I would face
My horse was ready for a midnight ride
"And so am I" I thought, patting its side.
And then I couldn't believe my eyes!
A light shone there, under the clouded skies!
And just when I mounted my horse at last
A second light made me dismount it just as fast.
Quickly I galloped, clutching my sword
From the depths of my hear emerged one word
"Revolution", a fire that would burn so bright
Until the very last moment of the glorious fight.
Under the calm and star-lit sky
The injured and the dead here and there lie
In the air an eerie felling was creeping
Around the ones that would eternally be sleeping.
Dawn decided to break at last
The night had not passed very fast
That night we had made the British flee
And starting with that day we would all be free.
That was the ride
To a young nation's fight
A fight that would free
The land and the sea
THE END
